I like the thought of a sunrise alarm clock, but this one really does throw out a harsh and unnatural light. The sunrise setting does wake me perfectly and now I’m on the hunt for another model. The key things that I don’t like about this particular alarm clock are:
- The backlight on the clock is too strong (even at the lowest setting) and keeps me awake at night. I have to place something in front of it so it doesn’t illumnate my bedroom too much.
- There is only one alarm noise and it is hellishly loud. There is no volume to turn it down.
- When the sunrise light is on, I can’t read the time on the clock – the light feels like it burns my eyes when I look at it. It’s annoying and I keep another clock next to my bed to tell the time when I first wake up.
- I tried using the sunrise light without the hellishly loud wake up noise, but it swtiches off after the a few minutes past the alarm time. This meant I fell promptly back to sleep – again because I couldn’t check the time easily.
- The alarm sysytem is irritating complex to work through, but is usable enough and it is fantastic that it allows you to program for each day of the week.
- The design isn’t the most attactive. But it does look exactly as it does in the picture so you know what you are getting.
- I haven’t worked out how to do the sunset thing – but then I am not an instruction reader so that is my fault.
- And obviously my main complaint is the bright harsh light – I find my eyes get very sore when the light is on too much. It is supposed to be a SAD light, but I don’t know enough about those products to give any sort of feedback about that.
All in all, it does wake me well in the morning – it really does help my body clock wake up and I am generally more refreshed throughout the day. As such, I’m now on the look out for a new product – preferrably with a DAB radio. That said, given the price of this model – I am somewhat disappointed to feel the need to do so (even after using this model for nearly two years – my eyes just can’t take it any longer!)

Well it certainly wakes you up, but it is a bit unsettling. The quality of the light is the same as for camera floodlights and there is something alien about the LCDs. I also have a Lumie and a Phillips and the Phillips (with the sound of waves, forest etc) is certainly the best.
What is excellent about the Sunrise is that you can program it for different times on each day of the week, so (for example) you can be an hour later at weekends.

I tried SRS320 but that was like waking up to a floodlight and the room seemed cold and it didn’t make me want to really get out of bed and the alarm beep wasn’t very nice. Eventually went for the Philips Wake up which is much nicer!

I can not live with out this. I get up very early as I work in the city. As its so dark outside, having this wake me up is a God send. Its like ahving the sun shine in the room. I have ni problem with it at all. I would recommend it to anyone that has difficulty waking up in the dark, and I expect that is everyone!

A fantastic product and really does help with the cold dark mornings. This is my first light box and it’s fantastic.
