I am very pleased with my lamp. The design is fantastic, it looks very nice in the bed side table. Light comes out a bit yellow, but it really wakes you up; I just had to raise it a bit over the height where my head rests on the pillow; it is also more effective when you have it close to you (40-50cm). No problems with the radio, just have to fiddle a small with the antennae to get a excellent signal. Brilliant to recharge your ipod during the night and wake up with your favorite tunes; the drums option make a excellent substitute when necessary. The sound is nothing spectacular, but it is enough for me while I get ready in the morning. I have not used the sleep option.

I bought the Philips New Wake Up Light Alarm HF3490 With IPod Dock because I had read some reviews about the benefits of being awaked with that increasing light. Though the price is really high for an alarm clock I thought that it would be worth it, and it really worked for a few days. The problem was that after less than two weeks the lamp did not work anymore and it was just like a huge alarm clock with an iPod charger. Another problem is that you can’t change the lamp for yourself.
Fortunately I bought it in Amazon, so I had no problem to get my money back.
Another thing about Philips: I wrote a similar review in their official webpage, and more than one month later they still say that there are no comments!

Lamp failed after a few days, though ipod feature still worked. Apparently, many buyers have had same problem. It seems the product hs serious reliability problems – don’t waste your money.

The light is fantastic, just what is needed early on in the mornings. Shame the radio doesn’t tune at all, just hisses all the time. I wake up to the light, gentle birds and my Sony radio alarm for the news headlines! If you want a wake up light it is fine but if you want a radio forget it. iPod sounds ok but not perfect; a bit distorted.

I have bought this as a present for my significant other’s birthday and it is brilliant, especially the iPOD functionality
But, less than 2 months in the bulb died so no more light…. and since it cannot be replaced (says product sheet) you just have to get a new one! (could be expensive when outside the 1-year warranty)
Under warranty so got a replacement very quickly (very impressive customer service on this one) but can’t help but be worried about it happening again….
The only other slight criticism.. no wave sound to wake-up… this would have been my favourite… but you can download one and play it from your iPOD so solutions all around!
